Into Cerberon - Mod News

Far and away a large improvement on IC 002, Into Cerberon 003, code-named "Quartz", brings a stable of improvements sure to please Descent fans, including:
  • Tri-Chording
  • "Catch-free" movement model
  • Collision damage & noises, plus ship scraping noises
  • Reworked HUD
  • Fixed main menus
  • New pseudo-HDR bloom
  • New weapons: Plasma Cannon and Autocannon
  • New pickups: Shield orb & Energy box
  • New maps: Jaspos' all-new "Tumbler" and vertigo-one's "Minerva" remake
Hit up any of the following fine downloading establishments to get your hands on the 42MB download. The IC 003 package includes binaries for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Doom 3 1.3 is required.If you have a mirror, e-mail me at hexetic@hotmail.com and I'll add it to the list here.

In case you didn't notice the thread in the internal discussion forum, we'll be conducting our final play-test tomorrow of IC 003, with the aim to release Saturday night if all is well. The final release candidate package is being uploaded to our internal file-server and all team members should obtain it in preparation for the test at 1700h UTC (1200h EST).

Team-members, please also take a quick look at the IC 003 Readme and verify its contents (like your name, for example).

A little heads-up that the source code for IC 003 has been finalized, and sent to our cross-platforms builders. All of you waiting anxiously with baited breath for IC 003, take heart and take a peek at our IC 003 objectives thread. Internally, we're up to Release Candidate 2 today, which brings in fancy-pantsy new HDR bloom from Marko Haka; it looks a lot spiffier than the bloom we used in IC 002.

We're definitely going to hit November, probably before American thanksgiving.

I'd already disabled guest posting for every forum except General Discussion, but it appears that we CANNOT SHTOP ZE SPAMBOTS so I'm turning off guest-posting there as well. Give a warm welcome to vertigo-one, who's now received an "official comission" on the IC team for his work in re-creating the (beloved? hated?) Minerva for IC 003. I'll admit I had some doubts about whether he'd be able to pull it off, as by his own admission he's a novice with the Doom 3 tools, but you gotta hand it to him for not throwing in the towel and for taking his lumps like a man. The version of Minerva that'll ship with IC 003 will be (I think) his third complete rebuild of the map after we trashed the first two... so yeah, it should be ready to rock.

Though as a Descent map it isn't a heck of a lot to look at compared to what the Doom 3 engine can do, here are some WIP screenshots from last week's internal-test version to whet your appetite.

Not to detract from vertigo-one's valiant efforts, but Jaspos' Tumbler map (another new one for IC 003) is ready to rock with a simply beautiful outdoor area that should be a blast to zip around in.

We're holding on a finished AutoCannon pickup and some final updates to Minerva before IC 003 goes live, so don't worry - it's a-comin'!

And, in completely random irony news, as I type the last few words of this newspost, what song has iTunes chosen to "randomly" play but the namesake of this very mod - Sonic Mayhem's Quake II track, "Descent Into Cerberon". Oh, to blast Stroggs from a Pyro...

Sorry about the downtime, folks. Had some trouble restoring the database after the server move, but it's all good now. We didn't lose a single post!

You shouldn't have any trouble with cookies or anything like that either; since the domain name didn't change, if you were logged in back on the old server, you should be logged-in just fine over here, too.

Our host is switching servers, so there may be some site downtime in the next few days while DNS records are regenerated. Rest assured that site downtime will not affect 003 progress in the slightest; if you haven't already, check out the topic on the new hud I made a couple of days ago; the shield indicator is looking spiffy and we're planning on also having a graphical weapons indicator as well.

We're getting closer to IC 003... I fixed one of the "big" remaining code bugs earlier this week, and we had a little playtest today in which I demonstrated that a little sneakiness and some good aim is more than enough to beat LPB server host Narfig.

I also snapped some (widescreen!) shots of Jaspos' ic_tumbler, which is coming along very nicely and - let me tell you - has lots and lots and lots of nice dark places to lurk in.

It's coming soon... We swear. Please don't hurt us.

If you look in the forums, you'll see that we are *not* dead. Jaspos is continuing to work on a brand-new map that should be good for you Descent 3 lovers, and the enhanced audio effects from Narfig "Garbagecan"(*) Agar. I'm hacking together a fantastic trailer with the help of some of the Descent community members, and I know you'll all love the new guns that shoot even bigger and badder and more hurtingfull bullets.

Oh, and there's some minor fixes like not having a standard Doom3 GUI and not being able to start a server from the Multiplayer menu, and not getting stuck on walls when trying to turn.

And there's this thing called "triye-chourdinge", I don't know what it is, some kind of shoe accessory or something. But it's in 003 too.

Just little itty-bitty stuff, you know.
