Please give a warm welcome to our new team member, Jaspos, who will be contributing maps to the IC project. Jaspos brings a wealth of previous experience with the Unreal engine, as can be seen at his PlanetUnreal site, Ungineering. He's already been hard at work on a new IC map, ic_tumbler, with screenshots available on his site and a nice little discussion going in our forum.

Welcome aboard!

LDAsh pointed out to me that this month's issue of Australian PC gaming mag "PC PowerPlay" includes Into Cerberon 001 on the cover disc - and features a screenshot from our mod on the DVD slipcase!

Click either of the above images to see larger scans procured by team members Tron and LDAsh. Oh, and if you're visiting us after having tried out IC 001 on the DVD, be sure to snag IC 002 from moddb.

Work on IC 003 is proceeding apace, and I thought I'd give a little status update for those who aren't following our progress on the forums. I'm working on customizing the main menu so that you won't have to use the console to bind your roll keys (among others) and so that you'll know which button selects which gun. In addition to working on the Quad-Fire Upgrade and AutoCannon pick-ups, Spectre has thrown together a techno-y Shield Orb that somehow managed to be pretty nice in spite of my pathetic concept sketches.

We're pleased to announce the release of version 0.0.2 of Into Cerberon, codenamed "Copper". This release ups the ante on 0.0.1 by including a brand-new map (Spectre's "ic_mine"), a functional HUD, new sound effects and music, and tons of bugfixes. Multiplayer is working well but may suffer in high-lag situations due to incomplete code that we hope to rectify in 0.0.3. Doom 3 1.3 is required (but not RoE). This release includes binaries for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and we've even tested that Linux<->Windows play works fine!Refer to the readme file for instructions; for bug reports or additional help please check in the IC 0.0.2 release forums thread.

Narfig is will be running an IC 0.0.2 server at 24.57.197.74 all day today, so get downloadin'!

Thanks for playing Into Cerberon!

We got the Linux build up and running and even conducted a playtest tonight to ensure that it and the Windows binary talk nicely to each other. I've asked our Mac build guy for a rebuild and documentation is currently being finalised; we should be good to go this weekend, with no more bugs remaining.

RedOmen has just resurfaced and built our 002 source code for Linux; we should be ready to release tonight after a brief test and repackage.

It's not 0.0.2, but it's the next best thing - especially for those of you luddites still languishing in the past with computers not powerful enough to play Doom 3. Presenting the "Grinder" trailer featuring footage from IC 0.0.2 on the new ic_mine map. Yes, it's got the most cliched background music in the world (for a Doom 3 mod, at least), but we hope you enjoy it nonetheless :D.

Oh, and all you old-school Descent types should recognize the looping sound effect at the beginning of the vid. Thanks to our sound guy Narfig for playing the dunce at the start and for kindly allowing me to blow him the hell away at the end.12 MB big, 1:19 long. DivX codec required. Doom 3 clips taken with FRAPS, video edited in Sony Vegas.

All we're waiting for to release IC 0.0.2 is a Linux build of our source code, but alas, the nice guy who helped us with 0.0.1 cannot be found! We would really like to get 0.0.2 out this weekend; if you have a Linux box and know how to build Doom 3 mod code, then please drop me a line at hexetic@hotmail.com.

The code is off to our cross-compilers, the art and scripts are finlized, and I'm working on the documentation to send to our translators. Into Cerberon 0.0.2 should hopefully be out this weekend; the big feature is Sp3ctre's "ic_mine" map (such an original name, eh?), which should feel a lot more "Descentish" than the ic_whatever and ic_pipeline maps included in 001. We also have an actual HUD this time, and we've fixed some graphical bugs and added new sounds. Here are some pics to whet your appetite:

Stay tuned for the release announcement this weekend.
